  • During the 90's

... the haunted attraction industry went through many changes. The Six Flags Haunted House fire in New Jersey sparked a revamping of the fire codes nationwide. State and local fire inspectors began to scrutinize local haunts. New laws for HH attractions forced haunters to upgrade their event with water suppression systems, exit lighting system as well as compliance with other building codes. Haunts that could not meet the new safety codes were forced out of business. Long gone were the days when a local abandoned house could be transformed to help raise money for a local charity. While these codes have made the indoor haunted attraction industry safer, more and more haunters diverted their attention to outdoor events, sparking an interest in hayrides, corn mazes, carved pumpkin attractions, and haunted woods that dominate the industry to date.

  • As important as the raising of funds for our organization

... so too is the ministry that takes place each year. Countless youth and adults from parishes within the Diocese of Providence have participated in this event by assisting with the building, the acting, and often as excited customers. The lives of many young people have been changed as a result of their activity with this event. Many saw this as an introductory activity and have continued to be involved with the many other opportunities that are offered during the remaining of the year. Longtime volunteer and Youth Minister for the CYO Center, Andy Monfils, took on the torch of designing the HL during the latter part of the 1990's leading our path of leadership down a new road it was at this time that the very youth that worked as characters in the HL, were now becoming our future designers, and builders. By the end of the decade and after 20 years in the business it was time for a makeover and a newdirection for HL.

  • The year 2000 also saw a new

... advertising relationship with one of Rhode Island's leading radio stations, 92ProFm Providence, the all new Haunted Labyrinth website, the three story Victorian faade, and new designs by long time haunted house industry consultant, Leonard Pickel who had already greatly influenced the project over the years. For the next few years, Leonard Pickel designed the Haunted Labyrinth bringing new room ideas, footpaths and designs. During these years, the 3D maze attraction became a popular part of the overall design. Sections of the HL were designed for the customers to wear 3D glasses to experience the special effects.

  • By the middle of this decade, the HL celebrated 20 years

... and once again our builder's torch was handed over to another longtime volunteer, Jason Deltoro. Under his direction and the committee of volunteers, we had a successful anniversary year which included a collection of the favorite room scares and designs that had been done over the years. As we approached the end of this decade, the HL has taken a new approach that includes a seasonal theme. Popular themes have included an alien invasion, Haunted Hotel, Haunted Circus, and the 2009 theme, Haunted Hollywood. We are still staffed primarily of volunteers and hope to continue far into the future with our fundraiser. We would like to thank all of the people that have helped us make this a great event; we could not have been such a success without you.
